Influenza Vaccine

April 2024


We have the government funded Influenza vaccine in stock and are taking bookings for eligible patients only:

 

  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years*
  • All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older
  • Pregnant women - during any stage of pregnancy
  • People aged 65 years and older
  • All people aged 6 months and older with medical conditions associated with an increased risk of influenza disease complications e.g.

- cardiac disease

- chronic respiratory condition

- immunocompromising condition

- haematological disorder

- chronic metabolic disorder

- chronic kidney disease

- chronic neurological condition

- long-term aspirin therapy in children aged 5 to 10 years.

 

The vaccine is latex free and having an egg allergy is not a contraindication for having the influenza vaccine.


It is important to get the influenza vaccine every year. This is because the most common strains of the virus that cause influenza change every year and the vaccine also changes every year to match these strains.

*Children aged 6 months to under 9 years require two doses in the first year they receive the vaccine. Doses should be at least 4 weeks apart.

Walk-in Centres:

  • Provide free health care for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses to anyone over the age of 2
  • Conditions include: Common colds and influenza (you should have a covid test first); conjunctivitis; cuts, abrasions, bruises, burns; sinusitis, tonsillitis, middle and outer ear infections; ear wax removal; emergency contraception; school sores; simple gastroenteritis; skin conditions; sick certificates; simple limb injuries; Tetanus boosters if needed when you have an injury; urinary tract infections (for women only)
  • Open 7 days a week, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day from 7.30am - 10pm (Tuggeranong Walk-in Centre is open from 2pm – 10pm until late August)
  • You don’t need to make an appointment, as the name says, just walk on in!

COVID Care@Home:

  • The COVID Care@Home team includes nurses who are available to provide advice on symptom management, and assist patients with engagement of their usual GP, CALMS, and or Health Direct (if out of hours or on the weekends).
  • COVID positive patients are able to self-enrol in the COVID Care@Home team by contacting the team on (02) 5124 3085.
  • The nursing staff are available 7 days a week, 8.30am to 5pm.
